Speaker Schultz: Utah combats bad fed energy policy

One big thing

Speaker of the Utah House of Representatives Mike Schultz says the Utah is determined to produce the energy the state needs to power its economy, despite Biden administration policies attacking fossil fuels.

Why it matters

This year, Utah is predicted to have the lowest energy costs in the nation.

“The federal government is pushing for full reliance on impractical energy sources,” says Schultz. “But unlike other states, Utah isn’t falling for it.”

The speaker says Utah’s energy is the most affordable because we take an all-of-the-above approach. Utah Republicans have championed an “all of the above” approach to energy development including:

  • coal
  • natural gasses
  • geothermal
  • hydro
  • wind
  • solar

Recently-passed legislation has state officials exploring the potential of nuclear power.

“The Biden administration sure isn’t making it easy to keep the lights on,” said Schultz. “We’re taking a realistic, responsible approach so we won’t have to put up with brown-outs, blackouts, economic disruptions, or increased strain on our power plants. Because that’s exactly what we’re seeing in other states.”

Utah’s new and improved long-term strategic energy plan will ensure that Utah’s energy needs are met while keeping costs low and creating a cleaner, safer grid, says the Speaker.
